The Ottawa Catholic School Board is facing charges arising from a fatal shop class explosion in May.
Student Eric Leighton was killed in the blast at Mother Teresa High School.
Ottawa fire officials say they charged the board under an Ontario Fire Act article that forbids any welding or cutting on a totally enclosed container.
The 18-year-old Leighton was reportedly working on an oil drum in class the day of the explosion.
