Stork Family YMCA in north Waterloo is open for business. Construction on the multi-million dollar complex began 3 years ago. This is the second YMCA building in the K-W area and the two facilities are designed to compliment each other.

YMCA general manager Kim Mclean says " The community I think is excited to finally have a nice recreational facility on this side of the city."

The 45,000 square foot facility houses a pool, workout centre and multi-use gymnasiums. In October the Waterloo location will open its doors to a new library.

The YMCA side of the building is named after the Stork family, who donated $2 million for the construction of the building. The project cost more than $22 million.

Mclean says the facility is designed with families in mind, " Mom or dad could be on the track doing their work out, getting themselves healthy and still be able to watch children's programming that's happening in the gymnasium."

The Gilbert family took a tour of their new gym, it's the first facility the family will be able to use together. The kids are signed up for swimming lessons while parents Lindsey and Kent will try something new.

Kent says "I'm interested in doing a yoga or something a class maybe."

Regular hours and classes start Monday.
