Soon you will be able to see and buy an iPad 2 and other popular gadgets from Apple Inc. closer to home.

An Apple Store will soon be coming to the Conestoga Mall, and the site is already under construction.

It seems Apple is trying to challenge RIM right in its own territory.

Gray McCarty, a Laurier business student and Apple intern calls the future Apple Store at Conestoga Mall a bold move.

He says "I think really at heart there are a lot of people who love RIM and love Apple but haven't been able to express that because it's a little awkward for them."

There is no formal announcement yet, but Apple's online job site has local openings.

An Apple Store in Waterloo Region marks a departure for the company. The other 19 stores in Canada are all in big cities or large urban areas, including six in the Greater Toronto Area.

Benjamin Bach is the director of Keller Willams Commercial Realty. His blog shows how the construction at Conestoga differs from a typical site.

He believes the move is great for the mall and will bring in a higher end clientele.

It's not clear exactly when the new store will open, so it remains to be seen what the impact will really be.
