The Guelph Police Service has charged former pastor James (Jim) Boudreau, 67, with a second count of sexual assault after another victim came forward.
He was initially charged with one count of sexual assault on Jan. 12, based on allegations that dated back to 1984, when the first male complainant was a teenager.
During that time, in the mid-1980s, Boudreau was the pastor at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Guelph.
According to police, following the initial charge, a second male victim came forward alleging sexual impropriety.
Guelph Police Sgt. Doug Pflug says "The charges laid before the court today are with respect to an alleged incident that occurred in 1983."
Boudreau was arrested and charged with sexual assault on Monday.
Guelph Police Staff Sgt. Dave Pringle is the lead investigator in the case and says the investigation began in the fall of 2010.
"The victims came forward to the Guelph police, over time. Obviously, this has been a horrendous event in their lives. They came forward and expressed concerns to police. We conducted an investigation and from there, we've laid the two charges."
The retired parish priest, who has been involved with a number of churches in southern Ontario, made a court appearance Tuesday. He was released on bail and will return to court in two weeks.
A publication ban prevents reporting on any evidence at Tuesday's hearing, or anything that would identify the complainants in this case.
