A lock of Canadian pop star Justin Bieber's hair has so far drawn more than 60 bids on eBay worth US$7,000.

The formerly mop-topped teen idol flaunted his newly-shorn locks on the Ellen DeGeneres show earlier this week and gave her one of the locks.

The talk show host had Tweeted that all she wanted for her birthday in January was world peace and some of Bieber's hair.

DeGeneres then put the hair up for bids on eBay, where it will remain until March 2.

She said the proceeds will go to The Gentle Barn, a non-profit organization founded in 1999 as a safe haven for abused farm animals and children.

Bieber said he is giving some of his hair to various people to donate to charity.
