Waterloo Regional police have charged an officer with trafficking in marijuana, less than three months after another officer was charged with theft and possession and suspended from the force.

Const. Jeremy Borda, who was with the South division and on the force for over six years, was charged Thursday and has been suspended from duty. The offense allegedly occurred in 2009.

Police Chief Matt Torigian says an investigation into allegations of officers possessing drugs was launched in November, leading to the arrest of Const. Andrew Robson.

A media release issued in November said Robson "failed to properly process property that had been seized during an investigation into illegal drugs."

He was found to be in possession of marijuana believed to be linked to the drug investigation and suspended from duty.

Borda's arrest was a result of further investigation into those allegations and a third officer has also been suspended pending a Police Services Act investigation for alleged misconduct.

In a press release issued Friday, Torigian says Waterloo Regional police are "committed to bringing the matters before us to a timely resolution, ensuring transparency and accountability to our community."

Borda will make his first appearance in Kitchener Provincial Court on Feb. 14.
