Thirty local construction workers braved Monday's cold to protest in front of the new Lowe's hardware store on Ira Needles Boulevard.

The unionized group stopped cars as they entered the parking lot.

The protestors say the Waterloo store did not give them a chance to work on the new building because the company hired workers from the U.S.

Greg Bobier, business manager for the Waterloo Wellington Dufferin Grey Construction and Trades Council says the "Lowe's building was not built using local labour."

Some of the protestors came all the way from Hamilton to show their support.

The district manager for Lowe's says the group is free to protest as long as they remain peaceful.
