Police arrested two people Tuesday night in connection with the discovery of a body along the Grand River in Brantford on Dec. 13. The identity of the victim has also been released.

After a joint investigation by Brantford and Hamilton Police Service, Robert Howard Clause, 33, and Tara Carisa Baker, 31, both of Glennie Avenue in Hamilton were arrested and charged with first degree murder.

The victim has been identified as Devon Anthony Gayle, 22, also of Hamilton.

An autopsy indicated that the victim died as a result of blunt force trauma. He was found by a passerby near Ballantyne Drive near Spalding Drive on Monday.

Police believe that the events leading up to the death of Gayle began in Hamilton, and that both of the accused were known to the deceased.

The vehicle being driven by the suspects when they were arrested has been seized as evidence, and a residence in Hamilton has been secured for forensic examination.

Both suspects were scheduled to appear in a Brantford court Wednesday.

Anyone who may have information on the investigation is asked to contact Brantford Police Detective Jason Saunders at 519-756-0113 Ext. 2270, Hamilton Police Detective Rick Arnold at 905-546-4123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
